HE Mr. Faisal bin Muammar addresses 1200 Islamic Figures from 127 Countries representing 28 Islamic Components at the MWL conference on Islamic Unity

HE Mr. Faisal bin Muammar addresses 1200 Islamic Figures from 127 Countries representing 28 Islamic Components at the MWL conference on Islamic Unity: Perlis of Labeling & Exclusion, held in Makkah under the Patronage of the Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques. Muslim Makkah Conference.

His Excellency Mr. Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar

Secretary General of King Abdullah Center for Interreligious and Interfaith Dialogue

  • It is a pleasure to meet this constellation of scholars, thinkers and opinion makers in the Muslim world.
  • The theme of the conference is important and vital in discussing the perils of labeling and exclusion on national unity.
  • The Muslim World League should be proud for gathering this extraordinary number of different Muslim sects and components.
  • If human history wants to teach us anything, the most important lesson would be; the issues of pluralism, diversity and difference have not been a problem in themselves.
  • The core issue of the matter is not diversity and difference of any kind but, the aptitude of each society to manage these religious, sectarian and cultural differences.
  • We must convert diversity and pluralism into positive sources for coexistence under the umbrella of citizenship and enrichment of society investing in the experiences and capabilities of all its members.
  • Confronting phenomena of diversity and differences with the weapon of classification and exclusion is like pouring oil on fire. This is how only sick  minds and introvert work; whose only concern is stirring up sedition, holding grudges against distinguished, influential and proactive people.
  • The greatest threats to social peace are factional fronts, conflicts, disputes and division into larger streams and ideologies.
  • The national state is the legal and regulatory frameworks that will bring together all members of society under one umbrella, and would grant them rights and clarify their duties regardless of their affiliations or orientations.
  • The adoption of negative and segregationist categories constitute a direct threat to the principle of citizenship and the stability of the national state.
