Jakarta:

In the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars; His Excellency Mr. Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia; and His Excellency Dr. Nasaruddin Umar, the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, hosted the first Albasira International Competition for Memorizing the Holy Qur’an for the Blind, organized by the Muslim World League for blind participants from around the world.

The competition aims to foster a spirit of healthy competition among blind Qur’an memorizers; to encourage, honor, and support them; to highlight the important role of blind individuals in society; to develop their abilities in Qur’an memorization and recitation; and to strengthen their self-confidence and participation alongside other members of society in Qur’anic competitions.

The competition included five categories: memorizing the entire Holy Qur’an along with the Al-Jazariyyah poem; memorizing the entire Holy Qur’an for males; memorizing the entire Holy Qur’an for females; memorizing 20 parts of the Holy Qur’an; and memorizing 10 parts of the Holy Qur’an.

During the event, the Muslim World League honored outstanding blind participants from various age groups who had memorized the Qur’an and excelled in recitation, Tajweed, and the memorization of Mutun.

As part of the competition’s activities, 300 electronic Braille copies of the Holy Qur’an were distributed—an innovative technology developed to serve visually impaired individuals worldwide.
