ConferencesA unifying platform for ASEAN scholars to address their major issues, the Council of ASEAN Scholars, under the umbrella of the Muslim World League, at its third session in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, emphasized the following: The importance of preserving the Islamic identity of Southeast Asian Muslims, and ensuring their unity and Islamic fraternity. The need to highlight the manifestations of Islam’s moderate values, while confronting both overt and hidden calls and practices of conflict and division between sects. The importance of coordinating stances among followers of Islamic schools of thought and sects to address common challenges facing the Islamic Ummah—particularly calls and practices of Islamophobia—while also strengthening alliances with followers of other religions and cultures to confront hate speech in all its forms, regardless of identity or pretext, and striving to build civilizational alliances and foster friendship among nations and peoples.
