Sheikh Muhammad Alissa to “Arrajol” magazine: Those speaking of hate speech have mental dementia

He stressed the fact that convictions can only be understood and accepted by convictions and thought by thought.
In a comprehensive dialogue with “Arrajol” magazine, Alissa attacked, those who promote a narrative “full of hatred, loathing, racism and sectarianism, while the central and fundamental issue has been relegated,” avoiding naming anyone in particular, and describing its advocates as having “a deep-rooted mental dementia.”
He pointed out that some of those who are affiliated with Islam have themselves contributed to the escalation of the phenomenon known as Islamophobia, whether through the rhetoric of extremism, radicalism or even through acts of terrorism. He continued, saying: “regretfully, everyone quotes the legal texts to support their approach without thorough knowledge, thus doing harm to these texts by distorting their connotations.” In his interview with the Editor-in-Chief Muhammad Fahd Al-Harithi the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Alissa responded to those who say: Religion is part of the problem, by saying: “Religion is one of the most important pillars to the solution. By virtue of its appreciation by the public conscience, its discourse and that of the educational curricula in the world, it musters great influence.” He explained that his endeavour is to boost curricula that promote the thought of coexistence, saying: “If the Muslim world is called to adopt curricula that uphold the values of coexistence, peace, and respect towards the other, then we will accept it, rather we call for its support even more.”
On the other hand, he drew attention as how important it is to work on the teacher’s formation; “along with the curriculum you need a teacher who believes in the message he is conveying, and the goal he is trying to realize. This will enable him to send his messages whichever way he wants. Therefore, in order to modify the curriculum to achieve the aforementioned goals, both must go hand in hand with the teacher training.”

Alissa revealed that the Muslim World League will organize a global conference at the United Nations at the end of this summer, and the subject "Confronting Hate Speech" will be one of the main topic of discussion.
Asked about his vision and the message he believes in, he said: “First, it is the message of Islam regarding the values of its moderation and its deep-rooted ease. It is a global and final religion valid and altruistic for every time and place; secondly, I am a firm believer in the dialogue and sometimes the debates in religious, intellectual and human rights issues.”
Alissa quoted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as saying: “We will destroy extremism. He realized that there is a problem trying to distort moderation; the foundation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in a systematic and dangerous enterprise. Then take the Kingdom on a dangerous course toward extremism and altering the way of normal life In the country, religiously and socially. Thus, narrowing the ample area of exculpation and absolution, which represents a very large area in Islamic law.”
As far as the judiciary in the Kingdom is concerned, - Alissa who previously held the position of Minister of Justice - he assured "Arrajol" magazine that "the judiciary in the Kingdom is in safe hands, and in constant development since the beginnings of its first inception about ninety years ago."
The Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Alissa, revealed that the Kingdom's vision 2030 raised the ceiling of ambition so high for the judiciary improvement, and increased the amount of responsibility and effort. He explained that Prince Mohammad bin Salman was the driving force behind the idea of a number of very important development projects in the judiciary, one of which is evidenced by the alimony fund whose system was issued and activated.
In another context, Alissa expressed his opinion on the issue about male and female mixing; saying, "Whoever says: mixing is absolutely permissible or absolutely forbidden, is not cognizant with the Sharia ruling, and contradicts himself." Highlighting the fact that "a man or woman cannot vanish from existence. There are spaces, such as markets and public places, in which mixing is an innocent, positive occurrence. As for the negative suspicious mixing in privacy, or one that leads to temptation; this cannot be tolerated."
Regarding personal interests, Alissa said about himself: “with the exception of social duties, I consider myself very busy pursuing knowledge and reading, and seldom attend public events, whether in a private or public community settings; everyone excuses me for that. Because this is my way and the style of living I lead. Time is short, and commitments are numerous. My hobby lies is in reading, analysis, discussion, philosophical and intellectual dialogue.”
Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Alissa indicated that he devotes most of his time to work, as he has not taken any vacation leave for thirty years, “Even the weekend I spend it working, and the family understands this, and I give them absolute freedom to go with relatives. However, I spend hours with them at Home; sometimes I accompany the family to some restaurants.”
Regarding his relationship with the children, he said: “I can say: I am more like a advisor to them, I avoid the thought of being a heavy burden on them. I give them suggestions, and they are free to choose.”
As for his ambition, he said, it is "to remove the negative image that some people have - especially the West - about Islam, and that Muslims appreciate the reality of their religion, which loves, tolerates and coexist with all."
