Burundi: Dr. Al-Issa Visits Social Welfare Centers as part of Rabita’s Programs to Combat Blindness in Africa

During the course of his African tour, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Bin Abdulkarim Alissa launched one of the Rabita’s projects to combat blindness in Africa, where the Bujumbura hospital "Johnson" project opened. The project was in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Burundi. The Burundian Health Minister Dr. Nkomana Tadi, HE Mr. Edouard Nduwimana the Ombudsman of Burundi, and a number of ophthalmologists at the hospital attended and His Excellency was briefed on the first operation to remove cataracts in the program.
This program is part of a large scale initiative of the MWL to combat blindness on the African continent, carried out by its subsidiary the International Organization for Relief, Welfare & Development.
In addition, HE Dr. Mohammad Alissa visited the Senior Citizens’ Home, the Children's Protection Center and the International Women's Union in the Burundian capital of Bujumbura, to offer solidarity and encouragement. He emphasized the Muslim World League’s pledge to work with everyone in order to provide support and help to serve humanity without religious or ethnic discrimination. He told them their Muslim brothers are in solidarity with them to provide them with material and moral support; this is at the heart of Islam’s moral values.
As part of the relief program within the official visit to the Republic of Burundi, the Secretary General of the Rabita, Dr. Mohammad Alissa, supervised the distribution of 3,000 food baskets to people in need in a number of villages and districts in the Republic of Burundi.
His Excellency the Ombudsman Mr. Edouard Nduwimana, has commended the humanitarian role of the MWL in helping those in need around the world in direct cooperation with the government agencies in each country. He added that the humanitarian role of the League along with its international Forum in Burundi had reflected the religious and ethnic pluralism and positive integration under the patronage of His Excellency the President.
This also reflects the wide scope of the MWL and its deep-rooted role in spreading harmony, love and peace among all. The ombudsman added that the visit of the Rabita’s Secretary General and its accompanying activities gave a strong indication of the magnitude of the humanitarian and exceptional work that Muslims and non-Muslims alike enjoy.
