At the official invitation of the President of the United Nations General Assembly, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Muslim peoples to commemorate #InternationalDayToCombatIslamophobia.

This marked the first celebration of its kind in the history of the United Nations, following the adoption of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly.

The invitation to deliver the keynote address at this inaugural event at the United Nations Headquarters underscores the MWL’s significant international influence and its role as a respected moderate voice of Islam. This invitation also comes in recognition of the MWL’s impact in combating Islamophobia, as well as hate speech and practices in general, through its continuous and influential approach.

Speeches were also delivered by delegations of UN member states, speaking on behalf of their governmental institutions' efforts to combat hatred in general and Islamophobia in particular.

His Excellency Dr. Al-Issa then held a bilateral discussion session at the organization's headquarters with His Excellency Mr. Philomon Yang, the President of the General Assembly.
