Christchurch, New Zealand: Dr Al-Issa Visits Masjid An-Nur, Pledges to Rebuild It
Dr Al-Issa visited Masjid An-Nur in Christchurch, the site of the terrorist massacre during Friday prayers on 15 March 2019 (8 Rajab 1440 AH).
During the visit, he reviewed the mosque's current needs and met with survivors of the attack and the families of those killed, may Allah have mercy on them. He reaffirmed the MWL's commitment to close engagement with Muslim communities and to its ongoing work combating hateful ideologies and promoting tolerance, coexistence and social cohesion worldwide.
Mosque officials raised the need for reconstruction to meet growing demand, driven by a significant rise in worshipper numbers in recent years, along with a new lecture and dialogue hall. On behalf of the MWL General Secretariat, Dr Al-Issa pledged to fulfil this request urgently, once the necessary legal procedures are complete.
