Dr Al-Issa advocates for "preventative peace" - the idea that reconciliation must be achieved before conflict breaks out. He has led delegations to Auschwitz, convened senior Islamic scholars in Mecca to reject sectarian extremism, and brought parliamentarians and religious leaders together in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the first dialogue of its kind since the conflict. This work also extends to the next generation: partnerships with the UN and Tony Blair Institute have equipped over 100,000 young people with the critical-thinking and dialogue skills needed to resist radicalisation and extremist narratives.
