H.E. Sheikh Dr Al-Issa Addresses UNHCR Event as Guest of Honour in New York
His Excellency Sheikh Dr Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, was guest of honour at this year's UNHCR event in New York, held alongside the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and attended by the High Commissioner.
In his address at the opening session, Dr Al-Issa spoke about the importance of charitable giving in Islam, its distinctive features and its foundations in Islamic law, and stressed the need for well-governed, institutional charitable work.
He set out the League's work to support and develop charitable activity, with a particular focus on governance and coordination through direct cooperation with the relevant government authorities in each country. He also highlighted the League's partnership with UNHCR in this area and its wider engagement with other UN organisations.
